The mini headstone is a compact upright stone in polished black granite, laser etched with a portrait, names and dates for a cremation plot or garden. Design it online and we ship it across Canada.

A small stone with the dignity of a headstone
Not every memorial needs a full size monument. Cremation plots are smaller than full graves, a memorial garden may have room for only a modest stone, and some families want something they can place among flowers at home. The mini headstone answers all of these. It is a compact upright stone in polished black granite, so it keeps the shape and presence of a traditional headstone while fitting into a space a fraction of the size.
The etching is the same high resolution work we use on our larger stones: a portrait, names, dates, a quote or an image, captured in fine detail against the deep black polish. Start a layout in our mini headstone design tool, which also shows the sizes available for this stone.
Where a mini headstone belongs
Its compact size allows versatile placement. The most common homes for it are:
- Cremation plots: A small upright stone marks a cremation burial without crowding a plot sized for urns.
- Memorial gardens: It sits naturally in a flower bed or beside a path, and black granite stands out against greenery and snow alike.
- Cemetery grounds near a columbarium: Where the cemetery allows small upright memorials in its cremation or niche area, the mini headstone gives the family a place to stand and remember.
- Private spaces at home: A backyard, a cottage garden or a quiet corner indoors can hold it as a lasting family tribute.
- Built for Canadian weather: Granite is not harmed by frost, so freeze and thaw cycles and months under snow leave the stone and its etching intact.
For flat options that sit level with the ground, see our garden memorial plaques.
Check the cemetery’s rules first
If the stone is going into a cemetery, the cemetery decides what is allowed. Each one sets its own rules in a by-law, a diocesan regulation or a private rulebook, and many cremation and lawn sections take flat markers only, so confirm that an upright stone of this size is permitted. Granite works in its favour: several Canadian cemeteries define a marker as granite, and Les Jardins du Souvenir in Gatineau permits granite monuments only. For a columbarium niche itself, most Canadian cemeteries supply or specify the niche front plate, so ask the office what can be placed nearby. The office issues a written specification and approves a drawing before production, and our free written proof is prepared for that approval. For a garden or a home, none of this applies and you can design freely.
Price and delivery
In the design tool on 22 October 2026, a 200 by 300 mm (about 8 by 12 inch) mini headstone was $618.70 in Canadian dollars, and the price changes as you change the size and options.
The design tool shows the price in Canadian dollars as you design, with shipping across Canada included. Any cemetery fee to set the stone is charged by the cemetery and is separate from our price; we do not install memorials. Cemetery installation is seasonal in much of Canada, so a stone ordered in winter is usually set in spring, while a garden placement can happen whenever the ground allows. We confirm your delivery date with the proof.

Frequently asked questions
Is the mini headstone suitable for a cremation plot?
Yes, that is one of its main uses. Its compact upright form suits the smaller footprint of a cremation plot, provided the cemetery’s rules allow an upright stone in that section.
How does it differ from the full size black granite headstone?
Both use polished black granite and the same laser etching. The full size headstone stands at a grave as the main memorial, while the mini is a compact stone for cremation plots, gardens and smaller spaces.
Can I keep the mini headstone at home?
Yes. It suits a backyard, a garden bed or an indoor space, and no cemetery approval is needed for a private placement.
Can the mini headstone go on a columbarium niche?
The niche front is usually supplied or specified by the cemetery, so the stone is not a niche cover. Some cemeteries allow small memorials in their cremation or niche areas; ask the office what it permits.
What size is the mini headstone?
The design tool shows the sizes available, and we confirm the final dimensions on your written proof.
